About Blackpool Writers' Circle

Blackpool Writers' Circle is probably one of the oldest writing groups in the country. It first formed in the early nineteen-thirties, and met at various venues in the town. At the outbreak of World War Two, we have been informed, the members joined the Armed Forces, and various other services connected with the war effort, including the Womens' Land Army.

After the war, the group re-formed, again meeting at different venues, until finding a semi-permanent home in an upstairs room on The Strand, Blackpool, where it met for several years.

Eventually, a new company took over the lease, and the Circle was again homeless. After a number of moves, the Circle met regularly at the C.V.S. Rooms on Abingdon Street, Blackpool, until the recent refurbishment of Blackpool Central Library, when the room was re-allocated.

We now meet at Blackpool Centre for Independent Living, 259, Whitegate Drive, Blackpool, FY3 9JL

We have a new internet resource on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/groups/Blackpool.Writers.Circle/  It's a private group by invitation for the moment, but we will be opening it up to associate members who cannot attend meetings at the Blackpool Centre for Independent Living.
